Team India secured an impressive haul of seven medals including 1 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze along with a 3rd Prize in the International Geoscience Youth Movement (I-GYM) Reporter category, showcasing the nation’s growing competency in earth sciences on the global stage.
Young Talent from Tier-2 and Tier-3 Cities Shine Amid Startup Revolution
Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the aspirational spirit of the youth, highlighting that many winners hailed from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, fueled by India’s startup revolution over the last decade. The minister emphasized how the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) has played a pivotal role in unlocking creative potential by moving beyond rigid subject boundaries, encouraging students to explore dynamic and emerging fields such as Earth Sciences, Biotechnology, Space Technology, and startup-led self-employment.

The Indian achievers include Rayansh Gupta from Ludhiana, Punjab (Gold, Silver & I-GYM 3rd Prize), Charuvrat Bains from Kapurthala, Punjab (2 Silver, 1 Bronze), Apam Nidhi Pandey from Jaipur, Rajasthan (Silver), and Priyanshi Ghanghas from Delhi (Bronze). Ravichandran, noted the ministry’s robust support in conducting the Indian National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO), held across 300 centers nationwide, facilitating the selection of the best students to represent India internationally. India’s performance at IESO has steadily improved, reflecting the growing interest and expertise in earth sciences.
About the International Earth Science Olympiad
Initiated in 2003 by the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO), the IESO is a global annual competition for secondary school students (Classes IX–XII). India has participated since 2007 and proudly hosted the 10th edition in Mysore in 2013, continuing to foster global scientific collaboration among young earth science enthusiasts.
