In his final official visit to the Indo-Pacific region as the US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan met with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, on Monday. The two leaders engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as critical technologies and maritime security.
Sullivan’s two-day visit to India, which began on Sunday, marks the final trip to the region before the inauguration of the new administration under Donald Trump later this month. As part of his visit, Sullivan and India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, are set to review the progress of the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), a key partnership in areas like semiconductors and military hardware that has gained momentum in recent years.
Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for Sullivan’s role in strengthening the India-US partnership, noting the value of their open and ongoing discussions over the past four years. In a post on social media platform X, Jaishankar thanked Sullivan for his “personal contribution” to the growing collaboration between the two nations.
The iCET initiative, led by Doval and Sullivan, has enabled deeper cooperation between India and the US in critical and sensitive sectors, with both countries collaborating on advancing technologies that are vital for their respective security and economic growth.
Sullivan’s itinerary also includes meetings with other Indian leaders and a visit to the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, where he will deliver a speech on the progress made under the iCET in fostering a stronger innovation alliance between the two countries.
This visit is expected to be the last high-level engagement between the Indian side and the Biden administration before the transition of power in the US.
