The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe into businessman Raj Kundra’s alleged involvement in a pornography racket by conducting raids at 15 locations in Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh. These include Kundra’s Juhu residence and premises linked to his associates. Kundra, who is married to Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, was previously arrested by the Mumbai police in 2021 for his role in producing and distributing pornographic content through subscription-based apps like Hotshots and HotHit Movies.
In 2022, the ED filed a money laundering case against Kundra under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), based on a 2021 FIR. This investigation also revealed suspicious overseas financial transactions. Kundra was earlier linked to Armsprime Media Private Limited, which developed the Hotshots app, later sold to Kenrin Limited, a UK-based firm owned by his brother-in-law. The police have already filed a chargesheet against Kundra and other accused.
Adding to his legal troubles, Kundra is also implicated in a separate Bitcoin investment fraud case. The ED provisionally attached assets worth ₹97.79 crore, including a luxury flat in Mumbai’s Juhu area, a bungalow in Pune, and equity shares. These properties were allegedly acquired through the proceeds of crime.
The Bitcoin scheme, involving massive sums collected from investors with promises of high returns, is tied to several FIRs across Maharashtra and Delhi. Accused entities concealed the earnings in untraceable crypto wallets.
Despite his legal battles, Kundra recently produced and starred in Undertrial 69, a film inspired by his time in jail.
This case highlights the ED’s expanding focus on financial crimes linked to digital platforms and cryptocurrency frauds.
