“Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath”: Nationwide Voluntary Shramdaan on 25th September 2025 under Swachhata Hi Seva 2025

Breaking News

New Delhi: India gears up for the 9th edition of Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025, a flagship cleanliness campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Running from 17th September to 2nd October 2025 (Gandhi Jayanti), the 15-day drive seeks to mobilize millions nationwide for high-impact cleanliness initiatives, focusing on transforming neglected, dirty, and dark spots known as Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs).

Focus on Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs)

Echoing last year’s success of transforming over 8 lakh CTUs, the 2025 campaign accelerates efforts to identify, clean, and beautify these critical public spaces. CTUs include garbage dumps, railway stations, rivers, degraded lands, back lanes, and other hard-to-reach and littered areas that significantly affect visible cleanliness and public hygiene.

Key Initiatives and Leadership Commitment

Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal announced the adoption of Delhi’s Bhalswa dumpsite, initiating plans for waste remediation and beautification starting 17th September. The Debris Disposal Authority (DDA) is working to secure additional land for improved waste processing.

Union Minister Shri CR Patil described SHS 2025, themed Swachhotsav, as a blend of celebration and responsibility, emphasizing CTU transformation, SafaiMitra welfare, ODF Plus and Swachh Sujal Gaon declarations, and plastic-free rural initiatives. The campaign embodies Antyodaya se Sarvodaya, prioritizing dignity, health, and sustainability for every village and town as pillars toward Viksit Bharat 2047.

₹8–10 Crore SafaiMitra Suraksha Fund was announced for Surat and Navsari regions to provide educational support and interest-free loans to sanitation workers’ families.

Nationwide “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” Shramdaan

A highlight of SHS 2025 is the voluntary shramdaan (community labor) day slated for 25th September 2025, promoting collective action for on-ground cleaning and plogging drives. Citizens, political leaders, youth groups, NGOs, SBM ambassadors, influencers, and partner organizations will participate widely, supported by local sanitation worker felicitations during cleanliness camps.

Coordinated Preparatory Efforts

Inter-ministerial and multi-level preparatory meetings were held through September 2025, including gatherings of union ministers, secretaries, state and UT officials, and coordination committees, ensuring streamlined implementation and extensive coverage for SHS 2025 activities.

Conclusion of Voluntary Shramdaan

“Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath” and the broader Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign exemplify India’s ongoing commitment to cleanliness, public health, dignity for sanitation workers, and environmental sustainability. Through focused community participation and sustained government support, the campaign is poised to create visible, lasting impacts on India’s cleanliness landscape in alignment with Gandhi Jayanti and beyond.
