A tragic explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Rathore Colony, Morena, Madhya Pradesh, led to the collapse of three houses, killing four people and injuring seven others late Thursday night. Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities still searching for potential victims under the debris.
The incident occurred around midnight. Local residents reported the explosion to police, prompting a rescue team to respond with support from the municipal corporation. Two bodies were initially recovered, and efforts later revealed two more fatalities. The injured were transported to the Morena District Hospital and subsequently referred to Gwalior for specialized treatment.
Details of the Deceased and Investigation
Among the deceased were Anno and Zoya, relatives of Jameel Khan, who owned the building where the illegal firecracker unit was operating. Two other victims, identified as Pappu Gurjar and Golu Prajapati, also lost their lives. Preliminary investigations suggest the explosion could have been caused by gunpowder, although an intact LPG cylinder was found at the site. Forensic teams are working to ascertain the exact cause of the blast.
Illegal Operations Highlighted
Authorities revealed that the firecracker factory was being operated without proper permits and that the building also housed several families. This has raised questions about safety regulations and enforcement in the area. Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh emphasized that the findings of the forensic team would clarify the precise cause of the explosion.
The tragic event highlights the dangers of unregulated firecracker production, particularly during festive seasons when demand for fireworks surges.
