The family of a 40-year-old cafe owner, who allegedly died by suicide in northwest Delhi on New Year’s Eve, has claimed that his estranged wife and her family played a significant role in his tragic decision.
Speaking to news agency ANI, the deceased man’s sister stated that just hours before he was found dead at home, his wife and her family had stressed him out, with his wife allegedly “daring him” to take his own life.
The couple had been married in 2016 but separated two years ago. Their ongoing divorce proceedings led to disputes, particularly over the bakery business they had run together. The sister explained that after their separation, they had agreed to each manage their respective outlets, but tensions arose when the wife demanded a share in his business. The situation escalated further when she allegedly hacked into his Instagram account, leading to a confrontation at 3 AM.
“She misbehaved with people through his Instagram account. It is because of this that my brother had to call her at 3 am. We have the recording,” the sister added.
The family has filed a police complaint, urging action against the deceased man’s estranged wife and her family. Police are investigating the case, and the man’s body has been preserved for a post-mortem examination.
