Farmers Across India Thank PM Modi for Bold, Farmer-First Stand in Trade Agreement Decisions: August 2025

New Delhi: In a resounding show of unity, leaders of major farmer organisations and cultivators from across India gathered at Subrahmanyam Hall, Pusa Campus, New Delhi on 12 August 2025 to thank Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his firm, farmers-friendly decisions in trade negotiations despite foreign pressure.
The meeting, chaired by Union Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, was attended by Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Bhagirath ChoudharyAgriculture Secretary Shri Devesh ChaturvediICAR Director General Dr. M.L. Jat, and farmer representatives from various states.

Farmers Applaud PM’s Unwavering Leadership

Prominent representatives— including leaders from Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Indian Farmer Chaudhary Charan Singh Organisation, and other regional associations — unanimously praised the Prime Minister’s refusal to compromise the interests of Indian farmers, livestock rearers, and fishermen in trade agreements, particularly resisting pressure from the United States.

Dharmendra Choudhary, National President of the Indian Farmer Chaudhary Charan Singh Organisation, said:

“This announcement not only brings relief to millions of food providers but also strengthens the self-reliance of agriculture and rural India. We wholeheartedly welcome and support this far-sighted vision.”

Virendra Lohan of the Chhattisgarh Youth Progressive Farmers’ Association called the move “a signal to the world that no foreign power can control Indian farmers,” lauding decisive action to block foreign entry into the dairy and agriculture sectors.
Dharmendra Malik urged the leadership to stand firm against free trade terms that hurt farmers, while Kirpa Singh Natthuwala hailed the rejection of U.S. pressure as a source of pride for Punjab’s farming community.



Recognition for Wider Welfare Measures

Representatives such as Kuldeep Singh Bajidpur noted ongoing welfare initiatives under the Modi government, expressing hope for even stronger policies that reduce dependency on external markets. Farmer’s also praised Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for his recent actions against counterfeit fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides.

Agriculture Minister: “Serving Farmer is Worship”

In his address, Shri Chouhan described the gathering as “a miniature India“, saluting farmers as “both the providers and givers of life” and stressing that for him, “serving farmers is worship of God.”
He reaffirmed:

  • stringent new law is being prepared against those producing fake fertilisers and chemicals.

  • Multiple farmer welfare schemes are being expedited, including digital payment of ₹3,900 crore in insurance claims to farmers under PM Fasal Bima Yojana on 11 August from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.

The solidarity seen at Pusa Campus reflects an unwavering bond between India’s farmer and the national leadership. With resistance to foreign pressureprotection of domestic agriculture, and continued reform in the farm sector, the Modi government has reinforced trust among cultivators across the country. Farmers left the gathering assured that their interests remain at the forefront of policymaking, under leadership they deem unparalleled in vision and commitment.
