New Delhi: Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has given a clarion call to citizens across India to actively participate in the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative and adopt healthier, more eco-friendly lifestyles. Speaking from his home village Hanol in Palitana, Gujarat, Dr. Mandaviya encouraged everyone to download the FIT India mobile app, highlighting its role in monitoring personal health and tracking carbon savings through sustainable travel choices like cycling.
From Local Movement to Nationwide Participation
Initiated by Dr. Mandaviya in December 2024, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle movement has transformed into a mass health awareness campaign across the country. Till date, the initiative has been organised in over 46,000 locations, witnessing the participation of more than 8 lakh citizens.
The 36th edition of the cycling event was held today across 5000 locations nationwide, in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps (NCC), involving around 3000 Namo Fit India Clubs. The event reaffirmed the Ministry’s mission of building a healthier, fitter, and pollution-free India through active community involvement.
FIT India Mobile App: A Modern Wellness Tool
Dr. Mandaviya emphasised the need for citizens, especially those in rural areas, to adopt the FIT India mobile app. He explained that the app provides real-time health information such as distance covered, time spent, heart rate, and calories burned, along with a unique carbon credit feature to measure environmental benefits from cycling.
“Cycling is not just a tool against obesity but also a solution to pollution. I urge every citizen to become part of our Fit India Sundays on Cycle movement and inspire healthier communities everywhere,” said the Union Minister.
Celebrations in Delhi and Beyond
In Delhi, over 1200 cyclists gathered around the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, combining cycling with energy-packed sessions of Zumba, yoga, meditation, rope skipping, and recreational sports like badminton and cricket.
Fencers and National Games medallists Naziya Shaik and Beni Quebha joined the movement, applauding the initiative for spreading awareness about lifestyle-related diseases and advocating fitness among youth in Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 cities.
“The morning began with high energy and a clear message – we must adopt an active lifestyle to remain fit and healthy,” said Beni Quebha after completing the Delhi ride.
Meanwhile, in Patiala, more than 100 cyclists from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) took part in the event at the Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW) campus, alongside the ongoing Indian Railways’ cycling training camp. The enthusiastic participation highlighted RSPB’s commitment to employee fitness and athlete wellness.
Driving Partnerships for a Fit India
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation, My Bikes, and MY Bharat. Simultaneous events are conducted across state capitals, SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, SAI Training Centres, Khelo India Centres of Excellence, and grassroots fitness hubs, making it a truly pan-India fitness revolution.
Conclusion
The 36th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle once again reinforced the growing momentum of India’s fitness movement. With strong partnerships, nationwide participation, and the launch of the FIT India mobile app, the initiative reflects the government’s vision of encouraging both health consciousness and environmental responsibility. As Dr. Mandaviya stated, cycling has now emerged as a dual solution — fighting lifestyle disorders such as obesity while reducing pollution, paving the way for a healthier, greener India.
