Himachal Pradesh: On August 28, 2025, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, chaired a high-level review meeting focusing on the restoration of mobile connectivity in the flood-affected states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. The meeting included Secretary (Telecom) Dr. Neeraj Mittal, senior officials from the Ministry of Communications, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), and representatives from private telecom operators.
Focus on Severely Impacted Regions and Damage Mitigation
Minister Scindia underscored the urgency for war-footing measures, particularly targeting the most affected districts like Doda and Udhampur in Jammu. He called for continuous monitoring of the inter-district and valley connectivity restrictions to expedite a return to normalcy. The Minister emphasized the critical need for citizens to remain connected with their families and access essential services during these challenging times.
Progress on Fibre Cut Repairs and Network Resilience Initiatives
Officials briefed the Minister on the swift progress made in repairing fibre cuts, with teams efficiently rectifying damaged infrastructure and creating loop-back systems to expedite restoration. Notable among the telecom resilience measures implemented was Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR), which allows affected consumers to latch onto alternate networks seamlessly when their primary service is disrupted.
Minister’s Confidence on Full Restoration in Flood-Affected states
Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed confidence in the prompt actions of telecom teams combined with coordinated efforts from state authorities. The Minister assured that all possible steps are being taken to ensure quick and full restoration of mobile services for the citizens affected by floods in the northern states.
