A tragic road accident on the Delhi-Haridwar highway claimed the lives of four passengers from Rewari, Haryana, while one individual remains critically injured and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh. The crash occurred late at night near the Ibrahimpur Cut in the Bahadarabad police station area.
The accident unfolded when the speeding car collided with a stationary truck parked on the roadside. Two passengers, Kehar Singh and Aditya, died on the spot, while Manish and Prakash succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The sole survivor, Mahipal, is receiving medical care at AIIMS.
Natasha, Chief Officer of Traffic, confirmed that the passengers were traveling from Rewari to Dehradun. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver, attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed, failed to notice the parked truck, leading to the collision.
Local authorities, including the police, transport department, and National Highway team, are conducting inspections at the crash site. Officials observed the presence of speed limit signs and reflectors, but visibility concerns and insufficient signage, such as “no parking” markers, were noted.
Rashmi Pant, Additional Regional Transport Officer, highlighted the importance of enhanced safety measures, including more prominent signage and warnings for accident-prone zones. Pant added that the road conditions were clear, and further inquiries are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The incident has sparked calls for stricter road safety regulations, emphasizing the need for awareness among drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution on highways.
