Security forces in Manipur have apprehended four militants belonging to two banned organizations in a series of operations targeting illegal firearms possession and extortion activities. The arrests, carried out on Thursday, involved members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and the United National Liberation Front (Ningon Macha group).
Three individuals from the Kangleipak Communist Party were arrested in Imphal, identified as Chongtham Shyamchandra Singh (23), Maibam Suraj Khan (32), and Boghimayum Sahid Khan (30). Seized from them were three 5.56 mm INSAS live cartridges, a .32 caliber empty case, and mobile phones.
In a separate incident, Sangomshumpham Warish (25), associated with the United National Liberation Front, was arrested in Thoubal district. A .32 pistol and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
Additionally, security forces recovered significant weaponry during an area domination exercise in the S Mongpi ridge of Kangpokpi district. The cache included a .303 rifle, a 9mm pistol, two SBBL guns, a 5.56mm INSAS magazine, hand grenades, detonators, and other ammunition.
These arrests and seizures reflect ongoing efforts to curb militancy and maintain peace in the region amidst long-standing ethnic and political unrest.
