The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, welcomed His Excellency Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services of the Federative Republic of Brazil, on 16 October 2025. The visit reaffirmed the growing international interest in Ayurveda and the deepening cooperation between India and Brazil in traditional medicine and integrative health systems.
Vice President’s Appreciation of Ayurveda
During his address, H.E. Mr. Geraldo Alckmin lauded India’s leadership in promoting traditional and integrative health systems worldwide. He said, “Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old treasure of health and wisdom. I congratulate the All India Institute of Ayurveda for its wonderful work in promoting health, treating diseases, and advancing education and research through a holistic approach.”
He further remarked, “The world needs Ayurveda’s timeless wisdom for preventive and sustainable healthcare.”
Recognizing the rising global interest in natural and preventive solutions, he observed that as life expectancy increases, the relevance of Ayurveda continues to grow as a scientific and sustainable health model. He remarked humorously, “If this were not a short visit, I would have surely taken the treatment for my back pain here at AIIA.”
Strengthening India–Brazil Collaboration
The Vice President expressed gratitude to the Government of India and AIIA for their warm hospitality and professional engagement. He was accompanied by his spouse Ms. Maria Lucia Alckmin, a high-level delegation of 14 officials, including H.E. Mr. Kenneth Nobrega, Ambassador of Brazil to India, and H.E. Mr. Romison Rodrigues, Director of the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA).
The Indian delegation, led by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and Prof. (Vaidya) Pradeep Kumar Prajapati, Director, AIIA, welcomed the visiting dignitaries.
Vaidya Kotecha emphasized the importance of international collaboration in traditional medicine, encouraging India–Brazil partnerships in the fields of Ayurveda research, integrative medicine, and wellness industries.
Overview of AIIA’s Contributions
The visiting delegation toured various departments of AIIA, including the Hospital Block, Academic and Research Wings, and the Centre for Integrative Health Sciences, while interacting with faculty members, researchers, and students.
A presentation was also made showcasing AIIA’s global partnerships, evidence-based research initiatives, and achievements in promoting Ayurveda and Integrative Health globally.
AIIA currently maintains three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with distinguished institutions in Brazil, aimed at advancing education, collaborative research, and policy development in traditional medicine:

Ayurveda, Yoga, and other Indian traditional systems are gaining increasing popularity in Brazil, signifying a global recognition of holistic and preventive approaches to wellness.
The visit by Vice President Alckmin highlights the synergy between India and Brazil in their pursuit of inclusive and sustainable health systems that combine nature, science, and humanity for global well-being.
