New Delhi: Global agricultural leaders, policymakers, scientists, and farmers assembled in New Delhi from 8-9 September 2025 for DialogueNEXT, a two-day high-level conference at the ICAR Convention Centre, PUSA Campus. The event is dedicated to exploring and accelerating cutting-edge innovations essential to securing the world’s food future amidst emerging global challenges and the urgent need to feed a growing population sustainably.
India’s Role as an Innovation Hub for the Global South
Shri Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), emphasized that global megatrends affecting agri-food systems demand systemic, farmer-centric solutions and accelerated adoption of advanced technologies. He noted India’s agricultural transformation is progressing rapidly, making the country a hub for smallholder agricultural innovation for the Global South.
Hosted by Leading Institutions with Farmer-Centered Focus
DialogueNEXT 2025 is hosted by the World Food Prize Foundation in partnership with CIMMYT, the Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), and ICAR. Continuing last year’s farmer-focused theme “Take it to the Farmer,” the conference highlights the critical importance of ensuring agricultural solutions reach farmers, especially in the Global South. Farmers remain central storytellers, guiding discussion toward pragmatic, impactful outcomes.
Marking World Agriculture Day and Honoring India’s Legacy
Held on World Agriculture Day, the event spotlights those who feed the world and celebrates India’s legacy of agricultural innovation. It honors Indian World Food Prize Laureates and showcases India’s leadership in global food systems. Stakeholders across science, policy, business, and civil society collaborate to advance a farmer-first agenda fostering cross-sector partnerships for action-oriented results.
Global Participation and Collaborative Agenda
Representatives from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, including government officials from Bhutan and Nepal, FAO Chief Economist Máximo Torero Cullen, and a US delegation from Iowa led by Governor Kim Reynolds and agriculture leaders, attend to take part in vital discussions. Sessions will cover agri-tech, climate- and water-smart practices, youth leadership, nutrition, value chains, market access, and private sector involvement.
Honoring Dr. Norman Borlaug’s Legacy
The conference commemorates 60 years since Dr. Norman Borlaug’s introduction of semi-dwarf wheat in India, which dramatically doubled production and prevented famine. Nicole Prenger, Senior Director of Global Programs at the World Food Prize Foundation, called DialogueNEXT a “moonshot” initiative to sustainably feed a growing population in coming decades.
Conclusion
DialogueNEXT India 2025 serves as a critical platform to confront the looming hunger tipping point through innovation, collaboration, and farmer empowerment, reinforcing India’s pivotal role in shaping global food security and sustainable agricultural futures.
