Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has taken to social media to fire back at producer Naga Vamsi following controversial comments about the success of Pushpa 2: The Rule. In a tweet shared on Tuesday, Hansal criticized Vamsi’s “arrogance” and accused him of borrowing heavily from his popular Scam series, including Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story and Scam 2003: The Telgi Story, for his latest production, Lucky Bhaskar.
Vamsi, during a roundtable discussion with other industry figures like Boney Kapoor, made a remark claiming that “Mumbai didn’t sleep” after Pushpa 2 reportedly earned over ₹80 crore in a single day. Hansal, seemingly irked by the comment, shared a clip of Vamsi’s statement on X (formerly Twitter), adding that he was “happy” to know that his Scam series’ narrative had influenced Vamsi’s recent work. He wrote, “His latest hit Lucky Bhaskar has borrowed liberally from the Scam series. It’s nice to see that stories travel and get replicated in different languages.”
The filmmaker also addressed what he felt was an inflated sense of self-importance, stating, “Nobody is bigger than the other. That narrative is destructive. Arrogance is even worse.” He ended his tweet with a message for his critics, saying, “To all those haters coming at me on my TL – see you in 2025.”
Hansal’s Scam 1992 (2020), which explored the infamous 1992 stock market scandal involving Harshad Mehta, became a massive hit. Scam 2003 (2023) followed suit, diving into the notorious stamp paper scam orchestrated by Abdul Karim Telgi.
While Vamsi’s statement caused a stir, it is clear that Mehta has no intention of letting the comments slide, reaffirming his stance on the importance of humility in the industry.
