A 52-year-old businessman was tragically shot dead while on his morning walk in Shahdara, East Delhi, on Saturday. The victim, identified as Sunil Jain, who ran a utensil business, was attacked by two unidentified men on a motorcycle as he was returning home from the Yamuna Sports Complex. The assailants fired multiple shots at Jain in the Farsh Bazar area, and despite being rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Reports indicate that Jain was on a scooter when he was targeted. Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene, and Delhi police have launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend them.
This tragic incident has sparked strong reactions from political figures. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condemned the law and order situation in the capital, accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of “ruining” Delhi. Kejriwal claimed that under Shah’s leadership, the city had become lawless and that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had failed to curb criminal activities. He urged people to raise their voices collectively for change.
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj, who is also a Delhi government minister, added that the assailants had fired 6-7 rounds at Jain. He described Delhi as a “crime capital” and criticized the central government for not addressing the rising crime rate. With assembly elections looming in February, law and order is expected to be a key issue in the upcoming polls.
Police are continuing their investigation and hope to bring the perpetrators to justice soon.
