Heavy Rain Impacts Several Districts; Relief After Scorching Heat

Following a long spell of intense heat, several parts of Tamil Nadu are now experiencing the cooling effect of heavy rain. Chennai and its suburbs such as Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, Valluvar Kottam, Arumbakkam, and Ambattur saw steady rainfall. North Chennai areas including Thiruvottiyur, Kasimedu, Tondiarpet, Vyasarpadi, and Ennore were also soaked by heavy rain and strong winds.

In some places, the strong winds caused damage. For instance, near Avadi, a temporary roadside tent was uprooted. In Vanagaram, a large iron-framed banner collapsed from a building, falling onto power lines and causing alarm. The banner’s concrete base also damaged a nearby house’s roof, injuring a resident who required hospital treatment. Poonamallee’s Thanthai Periyar Nagar witnessed metal roofs being torn off, damaging homes, air conditioning units, and vehicles.

Other districts like Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Krishnagiri, and Vellore also experienced heavy rain with thunder, lightning, and strong winds. This rain has provided welcome relief from the previous week’s extreme heat, refreshing both residents and farmers in places like Tirupattur, Vaniyambadi, Jolarpet, and Alangayam.Heavy Rain
