Union Minister for Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy, along with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu, inaugurated the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine in Changlang district on October 6, 2025. This marks Arunachal Pradesh’s first commercial coal mining project, opening a significant new chapter in the state’s economic development and firmly positioning it on India’s coal and energy map.

Inauguration Ceremony and Key Highlights

The event included the Bhumi Pujan ritual and a “100-tree plantation initiative” tree plantation drive at the project site. Following formalities, the mining lease was handed over and machinery flagging off by Coal Projects Private Limited (CPPL) marked the official commencement of mining operations. The coal mine boasts an estimated reserve of 1.5 crore tonnes and has become operational from this day.
