Assam Cabinet Refers All  Online Trading Scam Cases to CBI

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has made a significant decision to transfer all 41 cases linked to an online trading scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This move follows reports of substantial fraudulent activity that has resulted in losses totaling approximately ₹7,000 crores for investors.

The scam came to light last month when Dipankar Barman, a key figure in the operation, vanished after collecting vast sums of money from unsuspecting investors. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the handover process to the CBI is expected to take about one month, during which time state police will continue their investigations. He also noted that he discussed the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who agreed that CBI involvement was necessary.

The online trading scam involved various individuals across Assam promising lucrative returns on investments, but instead misappropriating funds for personal gain. As a result of complaints from defrauded investors, the police transferred the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which established a special task force (STF) and registered the 32 cases.

In recent developments, at least 60 individuals have been arrested, who reportedly deceived many, including doctors and celebrities. An Assamese actor, choreographer and social media influencer Sumi Borah and her photographer husband Tarkik Borah are among those arrested in the scam. (with inputs from agencies)

Mumbai: The television show Anupamaa, produced by Deepa Shahi and Rajan Shahi, has taken Indian audiences by storm, but it’s more than just a daily soap. It’s a revolution. The show’s core message is clear: self-respect and empowerment are non-negotiable, even within the closest relationships.

At the heart of the show is Anupamaa, a devoted wife, mother, and daughter-in-law. But her story is not about quiet submission—it’s about transformation. Despite societal expectations, Anupamaa chooses to stand up for herself, teaching viewers the importance of setting boundaries, even within their families. Her character embodies the strength and resilience of women who refuse to be undermined.

Anupamaa challenges the traditional narrative where women are expected to sacrifice their happiness and dreams for the sake of their families. It sends out a powerful message: whether in marriage or any relationship, respect is the cornerstone. Without it, the relationship is not worth holding onto.

What makes Anupamaa resonate so deeply is its portrayal of real-life struggles that many women face but are often too afraid to address. The show inspires its audience to embrace individuality, to say no to disrespect, and to remember that dreams are not bound by age or circumstance.

With these profound lessons, Anupamaa isn’t just a show—it’s a call to action. Through it, Deepa Shahi and Rajan Shahi offer a much-needed voice to women everywhere, encouraging them to reclaim their self-worth and pursue empowerment unapologetically.

Jaipur: A Timeless Journey from Medieval Splendor to Modern Marvel

Jaipur: Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, is a vibrant blend of medieval heritage and modern charm. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, it is often referred to as the “Pink City” due to the distinct color of its buildings. Jaipur’s rich cultural heritage spans centuries, with its roots in Rajputana traditions and the valor of its rulers.

The city’s architecture is a testament to its glorious past, boasting numerous palaces and forts. The iconic Amer Fort, built in the 16th century, is a prime example of Rajputana grandeur. With its intricate carvings, vast courtyards, and majestic gates, it overlooks the city from the rugged Aravalli hills. The City Palace, still home to Jaipur’s royal family, combines Mughal and Rajput styles of architecture, serving as a museum preserving royal artifacts. Another wonder is the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), with its ornate façade featuring 953 small windows, originally built to allow royal women to observe street festivals unnoticed.

The polity of Jaipur was shaped by the astute leadership of its rulers. Maharaja Jai Singh II, an exceptional leader, was also a scholar of astronomy, engineering, and town planning. He designed Jaipur as India’s first planned city, drawing influences from Shilpa Shastra and European architecture. The city was laid out with wide streets, open squares, and nine rectangular blocks symbolizing the nine divisions of the universe in Hindu cosmology.

Jaipur has been a business hub since its inception. The city is famous for its handicrafts, including blue pottery, jewelry, and textiles, which have attracted traders for centuries. The bustling bazaars of Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar continue to be centers of trade, offering everything from gemstones to hand-embroidered garments.

Languages like Hindi, Rajasthani, and Marwari are widely spoken, with folklore steeped in tales of bravery, romance, and sacrifice. Folk music, Ghoomar dance, and puppet shows are integral to Jaipur’s cultural landscape, keeping alive the city’s oral traditions.

In modern India, Jaipur remains a major tourist destination. Visitors from across the globe flock to see the Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the city’s vibrant festivals like Teej and Gangaur. Its palaces, cuisine, and traditions offer a unique experience of India’s medieval heritage, blended seamlessly into the dynamism of contemporary life.

Dipshikkha Nagppal never dreamt of becoming an actress

Mumbai: Dipshikkha Nagppal never dreamt of becoming an actress, but destiny had other plans. Best known today for her role in Megha Barsenge on Colors TV, her journey began unexpectedly with the legendary Dev Anand himself.

Coming from a family steeped in film history—her Nanaji introduced icons like Ashok Kumar and Mehmood to cinema, and her parents were active in the Gujarati film industry—Dipshikkha was no stranger to the world of entertainment. However, acting wasn’t on her radar. “I wanted to be Miss India or a corporate woman, maybe a fashion designer,” she recalls.

But a meeting with Dev Anand changed everything. “My mother took my sister and me to meet him, as he was casting for a movie. To my shock, he wanted to sign me, not my sister. I refused at first, but Dev Saab was persistent,” she says. Eventually, she relented, making her debut in Gangster. What she thought would be her only film opened doors, and comparisons to Parveen Babi soon followed.

Despite some regrets, like turning down Karan Arjun, Dipshikkha is proud of her journey. “Winning Mrs. India 2003’s first runner-up was another highlight, but I believe everything happened for a reason. Today, I stand ready to support my daughter, if she ever chooses to walk this path.” (with inputs from agencies)

Ayush Ministry Cracks Down on Misleading Ads

New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush has taken a firm stand against the rising trend of misleading advertisements that promote Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy (ASU&H) drugs as possessing “miraculous” or “supernatural” healing powers. In a public warning issued recently, the ministry highlighted the dangers of such deceptive claims, urging consumers to be cautious.

This move is a direct response to the surge of unverified health claims in various media, where ASU&H remedies are often portrayed as cure-alls. While traditional systems of medicine like Ayurveda and Siddha have deep cultural roots and play a significant role in wellness, exaggerating their potential can harm the very people they aim to help. The ministry emphasized that such exaggerated claims not only mislead the public but also pose significant health risks.

In its detailed statement, the ministry clarified that it neither certifies nor licenses ASU&H drugs for therapeutic purposes. Instead, that responsibility rests with state and Union Territory authorities under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940. The Ayush Ministry also pointed to the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act of 1954, which explicitly bans advertisements making false claims about curing certain diseases.

Adding to the precautions, the ministry stated that ASU&H drugs containing Schedule E1 substances should only be taken under the strict supervision of qualified medical practitioners. These drugs must feature warning labels in both Hindi and English, making it clear that they are not intended for self-medication or casual use.

The ministry urged the public to refrain from self-diagnosis or self-medication with these remedies and advised that any deceptive advertisements should be reported to the authorities.

IRB Infra’s Toll Revenue Surges 19% to Rs 502 Crore in September

Mumbai: In a significant milestone, IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd. reported a robust 19% growth in toll revenue, reaching Rs 502 crore in September 2024. The jump reflects a year-on-year increase from Rs 421 crore in the same period last year, as per the company’s latest exchange filing.

With a strong focus on infrastructure development, IRB Infra’s toll collection is driven by its network of 17 toll plazas across the country. The Maharashtra-based IRB MP Expressway led the charge, contributing an impressive Rs 136.8 crore. The Ahmedabad Vadodara Super Express Tollway followed, adding Rs 58.4 crore to the overall toll collection.

This growth comes amid heightened focus on infrastructure development in India, as well as increased traffic across key expressways. IRB’s consistent performance demonstrates the rising demand for faster, efficient road transport, and the importance of well-maintained infrastructure in driving economic growth.

With infrastructure investments on the rise, IRB Infra is well-positioned to continue capitalizing on growing traffic volumes and the government’s push towards modernizing transportation networks. This 19% revenue hike signals both a strong future for IRB and a promising outlook for India’s infrastructure sector.

Saibaba Trust Wins in Court

Mumbai: In a significant ruling, the Bombay High Court has upheld that the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust in Shirdi, one of India’s most revered religious institutions, is eligible for income tax exemption on anonymous donations. This decision comes as a relief to the trust, which sees countless devotees from across the globe contributing generously to the temple.

A division bench, comprising Justices Girish Kulkarni and Somasekhar Sunderesan, dismissed the Income Tax department’s appeal against a prior ruling by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) from October 2023. The ITAT had declared that since the trust operates both as a charitable and religious body, it qualifies for tax exemption on anonymous donations.

The High Court echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the dual nature of the trust’s work—religious and charitable—and confirmed that such entities deserve the benefit of tax exemptions on anonymous contributions. This ruling ensures that the trust can continue its philanthropic activities without financial strain, benefiting the thousands who rely on the Sansthan’s services.
