Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Disburses ₹225 Crore to Flood-Affected Families

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has released ₹225 crore as financial assistance to families impacted by the recent floods, bringing much-needed relief to over 45 lakh people in the state. The fund disbursement is part of a larger ongoing relief operation to help those affected by two waves of devastating flash floods, which have severely impacted over 30 districts.

Last week, the Bihar government began distributing ₹7,000 to each flood-affected family, with the cumulative relief allocation now standing at ₹532.22 crore. The latest ₹225 crore installment comes as the state continues to prioritize relief efforts amid widespread devastation.

In addition to direct financial support to families, the government has pledged ₹590 crore in aid for farmers whose crops were destroyed during the floods. Crop losses have been estimated at ₹229 crore in the first flood wave, primarily caused by the rising Ganga, and ₹261 crore in the second wave, triggered by water discharges from rivers in Nepal.

The scale of the disaster has prompted both state and central authorities to take action. A high-level meeting in New Delhi, chaired by Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, reviewed ongoing flood mitigation efforts. The discussions focused on critical projects like the Kosi-Mechi Link, which aims to improve flood control, irrigation, and water supply in rural Bihar, along with other initiatives such as the Indrapuri Reservoir and Tilaiya-Dhadhar Diversion Scheme.

Assam Cabinet Refers All  Online Trading Scam Cases to CBI

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has made a significant decision to transfer all 41 cases linked to an online trading scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This move follows reports of substantial fraudulent activity that has resulted in losses totaling approximately ₹7,000 crores for investors.

The scam came to light last month when Dipankar Barman, a key figure in the operation, vanished after collecting vast sums of money from unsuspecting investors. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the handover process to the CBI is expected to take about one month, during which time state police will continue their investigations. He also noted that he discussed the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who agreed that CBI involvement was necessary.

The online trading scam involved various individuals across Assam promising lucrative returns on investments, but instead misappropriating funds for personal gain. As a result of complaints from defrauded investors, the police transferred the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which established a special task force (STF) and registered the 32 cases.

In recent developments, at least 60 individuals have been arrested, who reportedly deceived many, including doctors and celebrities. An Assamese actor, choreographer and social media influencer Sumi Borah and her photographer husband Tarkik Borah are among those arrested in the scam. (with inputs from agencies)

Jaipur: A Timeless Journey from Medieval Splendor to Modern Marvel

Jaipur: Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, is a vibrant blend of medieval heritage and modern charm. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, it is often referred to as the “Pink City” due to the distinct color of its buildings. Jaipur’s rich cultural heritage spans centuries, with its roots in Rajputana traditions and the valor of its rulers.

The city’s architecture is a testament to its glorious past, boasting numerous palaces and forts. The iconic Amer Fort, built in the 16th century, is a prime example of Rajputana grandeur. With its intricate carvings, vast courtyards, and majestic gates, it overlooks the city from the rugged Aravalli hills. The City Palace, still home to Jaipur’s royal family, combines Mughal and Rajput styles of architecture, serving as a museum preserving royal artifacts. Another wonder is the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), with its ornate façade featuring 953 small windows, originally built to allow royal women to observe street festivals unnoticed.

The polity of Jaipur was shaped by the astute leadership of its rulers. Maharaja Jai Singh II, an exceptional leader, was also a scholar of astronomy, engineering, and town planning. He designed Jaipur as India’s first planned city, drawing influences from Shilpa Shastra and European architecture. The city was laid out with wide streets, open squares, and nine rectangular blocks symbolizing the nine divisions of the universe in Hindu cosmology.

Jaipur has been a business hub since its inception. The city is famous for its handicrafts, including blue pottery, jewelry, and textiles, which have attracted traders for centuries. The bustling bazaars of Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar continue to be centers of trade, offering everything from gemstones to hand-embroidered garments.

Languages like Hindi, Rajasthani, and Marwari are widely spoken, with folklore steeped in tales of bravery, romance, and sacrifice. Folk music, Ghoomar dance, and puppet shows are integral to Jaipur’s cultural landscape, keeping alive the city’s oral traditions.

In modern India, Jaipur remains a major tourist destination. Visitors from across the globe flock to see the Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the city’s vibrant festivals like Teej and Gangaur. Its palaces, cuisine, and traditions offer a unique experience of India’s medieval heritage, blended seamlessly into the dynamism of contemporary life.
