MUMBAI: Hyundai Motor Group has announced a transformative collaboration with leading Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)—Delhi, Bombay, and Madras—focused on advancing battery and electrification technologies tailored for India’s unique market requirements. This initiative aligns with Hyundai’s vision for sustainable innovation, further reinforcing its commitment to establishing a robust electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in the country.
The Hyundai Center of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Delhi will serve as the hub for this partnership, promoting academic-industrial cooperation. Backed by a $7 million investment spread over five years (2025-2029), the CoE will spearhead research in cutting-edge battery technology, software, and hydrogen fuel cells, key pillars of EV innovation.
Hyundai’s collaboration with the Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) at IIT Delhi underpins the company’s focus on fostering technical knowledge exchange and workforce development. Korean and Indian experts will conduct joint research, host specialized lectures, and offer international training programs, bridging academia and industry expertise.
These efforts complement Hyundai’s broader global strategy, “Hyundai Way,” which aims to sell 2 million EVs annually by 2030, supported by a robust lineup of 21 EV models and advanced hybrid technologies. Through these initiatives, Hyundai is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s EV transition, supported by government policies encouraging sustainable mobility solutions.
