In a significant operation, the Income Tax (IT) Department has confiscated 52 kilograms of gold, valued at approximately Rs.40.47 crore, from an abandoned vehicle in the Mendori forest near Bhopal. This seizure is part of a broader crackdown on real estate entities, with coordinated raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Lokayukta, and the IT Department.
Acting on a tip-off received around 2 a.m., a substantial police force comprising 100 officers in 30 vehicles was dispatched to the location. The abandoned vehicle, identified as an Innova Crysta, contained two bags holding approximately 52 kilograms of gold.
The vehicle is reportedly registered to a builder currently under investigation. Authorities are actively seeking to apprehend the individual.
In a related development, the Lokayukta recently raided the residence of Saurabh Sharma, a former constable of the Regional Transport Office (RTO), uncovering Rs.1 crore in cash and 40 kilograms of silver. Sharma, who resigned from his position a year ago to venture into real estate, is now under scrutiny for amassing disproportionate assets. These coordinated enforcement actions underscore the government’s commitment to combating financial malfeasance and ensuring accountability within the real estate sector.
