New Delhi: At the 17th CII Global MedTech Summit 2025, Union Pharmaceuticals Secretary Shri Amit Agrawal spotlighted India’s rapid rise as a major hub for affordable, innovative healthcare solutions. Speaking on the summit theme “Innovating for a Healthier Future – Advancing MedTech for Global Impact: Make in India, Make for the World,” Shri Agrawal emphasized that strong government policies and a dynamic, competitive MedTech industry are powering double-digit growth across the sector.
Transformation in Domestic Manufacturing, Self-Reliance, and Innovation
Shri Agrawal noted remarkable progress in domestic production of high-end medical equipment, including MRI and CT scanners, mammography units, ventilators, stents, heart valves, and dialysis machines. Devices once considered impossible to manufacture locally are now being produced in India, thanks to the nation’s growing innovation ecosystem and manufacturing capabilities. This shift marks a major milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in advanced MedTech.
Policy Initiatives and Ecosystem Strengthening
The Secretary highlighted multiple government interventions propelling the sector forward:
-
Three new dedicated medical device parks soon to be operational, with continued infrastructure upgrades.
-
Key policy measures like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the Marginal Investment Scheme for backward integration.
-
The upcoming ₹5,000 crore PRIP (Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector) Scheme.
These initiatives are set to deepen the domestic value chain, boost production efficiency, create a robust innovation ecosystem, and make Indian healthcare solutions more affordable and globally competitive.
Collaborations and Vision for the Future
Shri Agrawal called for closer collaboration among innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors to turn ideas into market-ready products more rapidly. He stressed that industry-government partnerships are vital for achieving India’s MedTech ambitions and that the sector is poised to generate millions of new jobs and ensure high-quality, accessible healthcare.
He concluded by inviting all stakeholders to shape India’s MedTech vision together and help realize the nation’s goal of Viksit Bharat 2047—a developed, healthy, and empowered India.
