BEIJING: China’s Defence Ministry announced on Thursday that both Chinese and Indian armed forces are making “comprehensive and effective” progress in implementing the agreement aimed at resolving the standoff in eastern Ladakh. This positive development follows the Special Representatives’ talks between the two countries on December 18.

During a media briefing, Chinese Defence Spokesperson Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang confirmed that both nations are committed to fulfilling the border-related solutions they have agreed upon. He added that steady progress has been achieved in the process, contributing to a de-escalation of tensions in the region.

Zhang’s comments come in the context of ongoing efforts to stabilize the border situation that had seen military tensions between India and China in recent years, particularly in areas of eastern Ladakh. The Special Representatives’ talks were a significant step in addressing these issues, focusing on ensuring peace and security along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The agreement reached in the talks included measures to reduce military deployments and maintain stability at the border. Both sides have expressed their commitment to working towards long-term peace, respecting each other’s territorial integrity, and fostering improved bilateral relations.

The implementation of this agreement is being closely monitored, with both governments aiming for a peaceful resolution of the standoff and a return to normalcy in the region.
