Murugan, met with a high-level Vietnamese delegation led by H.E. Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Chairman of CPV’s Central Commission for Information, Education, and Mass Mobilization. The meeting took place in New Delhi and marked a new chapter in the evolving relationship between India and Vietnam, particularly in the media and entertainment domain.

Also present during the discussions were Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, along with senior officials of the Ministry, underscoring the importance of the talks.

🎬 Strengthening Bilateral Cultural & Media Relations

The highlight of the meeting was a mutual agreement to step up cooperation in the media and entertainment sector, an area recognized for its growing global influence and soft power potential. The two sides explored possibilities of content exchange, joint productions, capacity-building workshops, and mutual participation in film festivals and summits.

Dr. Murugan expressed deep appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of a large Vietnamese delegation in the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit 2025, held from May 1–4, 2025. The summit served as a dynamic platform for countries to showcase their audio-visual strengths and discuss emerging trends in global media.

H.E. Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, in his remarks, commended India’s emergence as the world’s fourth largest economy, lauding its role as a trusted friend and strategic partner in Southeast Asia. He emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening the already warm bilateral ties, especially through cultural collaboration.

📜 Legacy of Trust: Celebrating Longstanding Relations

India and Vietnam share a rich tapestry of historical, cultural, and diplomatic ties. In 2022, the two nations celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations, highlighting half a century of mutual respect, friendship, and collaboration.

This partnership was significantly bolstered in 2016, when Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s official visit to Vietnam led to the elevation of bilateral relations to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Since then, India and Vietnam have collaborated across diverse sectors—defence, energy, economy, health, education, and now media—as they chart a path of shared growth in the Indo-Pacific region.

🌏 Shared Cultural Heritage: A Bridge Across Borders

Both sides reiterated the civilizational and spiritual ties that bind the peoples of India and Vietnam, especially their shared Buddhist heritage. These cultural affinities offer a strong foundation for future collaborations in cinema, documentary storytelling, historical narratives, and religious tourism content.

India and Vietnam agreed to harness the transformative power of media to build bridges between their peoples, enhance mutual understanding, and deepen societal cooperation. The two sides considered launching joint cultural broadcasts, exchange programs between national broadcasters, and journalist delegations to boost people-to-people ties.

🎯 The Way Forward: A Roadmap for Media Collaboration

Proposals were discussed to facilitate:

  • Co-production agreements between public and private media entities.

  • Workshops and training modules for young media professionals.

  • Exchange of best practices in information dissemination and content regulation.

  • Participation of media representatives in bilateral and regional forums.

  • Digital collaborations focusing on new-age content like animation, gaming, and web series.

Both delegations reaffirmed their support for continued ministerial and institutional dialogue to build on this momentum.

🔚 Conclusion: A New Era of India-Vietnam Cultural Diplomacy

The meeting concluded on a warm and optimistic note, with both India and Vietnam pledging to strengthen their multi-dimensional partnership, especially through cultural and media diplomacy. The leaders agreed that in the age of digital transformation, media cooperation plays a pivotal role in shaping narratives, building empathy, and fostering global peace.

With civilizational wisdom and contemporary dynamism at its core, the India-Vietnam media partnership is set to flourish as a symbol of strategic trust and cultural harmony in the Indo-Pacific region.
