Breaking News

New Delhi: India made history by hosting the inaugural 3GPP Radio Access Network (RAN) Working Group meetings—RAN1 through RAN5—focused on the standardization of 6G technologies. The event, held from August 25 to 29, 2025, took place in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area and attracted over 1,500 delegates from more than 50 countries, marking the highest ever global participation in such telecom standardization meetings.

Significance of the RAN Meetings

The meetings covered discussions on:

  • 6G standardization initiatives as part of 3GPP Release 20.

  • Finalization of Release 19 specifications, pivotal for evolving 5G Advanced technologies.

  • Technical deliberations by RAN working groups encompassing radio layers, network architecture, performance, conformance testing, and protocols.

Support and Participation

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Communications extended full institutional and financial support to the event. A dedicated DoT delegation actively participated to steer India’s strategic interests aligned with the government’s 6G vision.
