Indian Air Force Responds Swiftly to Floods in Jammu and Punjab: August 2025

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) launched extensive flood relief and rescue missions in response to severe flooding caused by incessant rains in Jammu and northern Punjab, demonstrating swift mobilization and effective multi-agency coordination.

Rapid Deployment of IAF Assets

  • Helicopter Fleet: Five Mi-17 helicopters and one Chinook helicopter from Northern Sector bases were deployed immediately, with additional helicopters on standby to scale operations as needed.

  • Transport Support: An IAF C-130 transport aircraft carrying relief materials and a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team arrived at Jammu, providing vital logistics and trained personnel.



Rescue Missions Highlights

  • Akhnoor, Jammu: 12 Army troops and 11 BSF personnel, including 3 lady constables, were winched to safety from flood-hit areas.

  • Pathankot, Punjab: IAF helicopters evacuated 46 stranded civilians; over 750 kg of essential relief supplies was also air-dropped to support local communities.

  • Dera Baba Nanak: A high-risk mission rescued 38 Army personnel and 10 BSF personnel in severely affected flood zones.

Collaborative Efforts and Impact- Indian Air Force

The IAF’s operation, in close coordination with the Army, BSF, NDRF, and local authorities, has been instrumental in saving numerous lives and ensuring timely delivery of aid. Advanced air assets and skilled crews carried out swift evacuations and relief delivery amid challenging conditions.

The IAF remains vigilant and ready for further missions as the flood situation continues to evolve, reiterating its commitment to national service during emergencies.
