Indian National Killed in Russian Military, MEA Demands Early Discharge of Recruits

India’s demand reflects growing unease over the safety and well-being of its citizens involved in foreign conflicts.

New Delhi: A tragic incident has occurred involving an Indian national recruited by the Russian military, who has died while serving in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The deceased, a resident of Kerala, was killed in combat, and another individual has reportedly sustained injuries. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has raised the matter with Russian authorities, urging them to expedite the discharge process for Indian nationals enlisted in the Russian armed forces.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the death of the Indian national on Tuesday, stating, “We have learned of the unfortunate death of an Indian national from Kerala, who was apparently recruited to serve in the Russian Army.” The Ministry has expressed strong concern over the incident and reiterated its demand for the early release of Indian nationals who were reportedly recruited by Russia to join their military ranks.

This development comes amid ongoing concerns over the involvement of foreign nationals in the Ukraine conflict. While the Russian government has faced criticism for recruiting individuals from various countries, India has consistently opposed such involvement of its citizens in foreign military operations, especially in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

India’s demand reflects growing unease over the safety and well-being of its citizens involved in foreign conflicts. The Indian government has emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure the protection of its nationals, many of whom were allegedly recruited by private agencies or under unclear circumstances.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by foreign nationals involved in the ongoing war and has prompted calls for stronger diplomatic measures to safeguard their interests.
