Indian nationals evacuated from Syria reached Delhi on Saturday, expressing deep gratitude to the Indian government and embassy for their timely efforts in bringing them back home amid the escalating conflict in the war-torn country.

The authorities initially relocated the evacuees to Lebanon before flying them back to India. Many shared their harrowing experiences, recounting how the Indian embassy provided essential support during their stay in Syria, including food, accommodation, and coordination for their safe exit. One evacuee, who had been in Syria for six months, spoke highly of the embassy’s role, explaining that despite the tense situation, the embassy ensured their safety by delaying their departure until it was safe. He commended the government’s successful evacuation efforts, noting that the embassy diligently organized transportation and facilitated their journey to Lebanon, where they were safely accommodated.

Another evacuee, who had lived in Syria for six years, praised the embassy’s assistance throughout the crisis, noting the efficient arrangements from Syria to Lebanon, and the accommodation and food provided in Lebanon.

Another evacuee recognized the Indian government’s swift actions and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring their safe evacuation. The embassy’s ability to process their visas within hours was a stark contrast to the delays faced by citizens from other countries, he noted.

The evacuation operation is part of India’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of its nationals caught in conflict zones. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday that it had evacuated 77 Indians from Syria, with more currently in the process of returning. The embassy’s assistance in arranging logistics, immigration, and accommodation was pivotal in ensuring the smooth evacuation of its citizens.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed close coordination for evacuation, with no current plans for evacuations from other Middle Eastern countries.

This operation highlights India’s continued commitment to protecting its citizens abroad, especially in regions affected by conflict and unrest.
