India’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 2% – Lowest Among G20 Nations: Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya

Breaking News

New Delhi: Quoting the World Economic Forum’s “The Future of Jobs Report 2025”, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced that India’s unemployment rate has plummeted to just 2 percent, the lowest among G20 countries. He credited this achievement to sustained job creation across all sectors, rapid economic growth, and a series of government initiatives designed to foster employment and entrepreneurship.

National Career Service Portal: Expanding Access and Guidance: Unemployment Rate

At a ceremony in New Delhi, Dr. Mandaviya witnessed the signing of significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and Mentor Together, and Quikr, aimed at amplifying employment prospects and career mentorship for Indian youth. With nearly 52 lakh registered employers, 5.79 crore job seekers, and an impressive 7.22 crore vacancies mobilized since inception, the National Career Service (NCS) portal now lists 44 lakh active vacancies and is evolving into a comprehensive platform for employment services.

Government Schemes Driving Record Job Creation

Dr. Mandaviya outlined five flagship schemes launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, totaling ₹2 lakh crore, to boost youth employment, skilling, and entrepreneurship. The Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), with an allocation of ₹99,446 crore, aims to incentivize the creation of 3.5 crore jobs within two years—1.92 crore of which will go to first-time workforce entrants. Schemes like MUDRA and PM SVANidhi continue to support self-employment and entrepreneurship on a national scale.

Partnerships for Career Mentorship and Job Matching

The partnership with Mentor Together is set to reach two lakh youth initially, offering structured career guidance, city/district-level outreach, and personalized mentoring by over 24,000 trained professionals. The renewed MoU with Quikr will further strengthen the employment ecosystem by integrating 1,200 daily job listings from 1,200+ cities into the NCS portal, improving real-time access to jobs for millions—including those from rural and underserved communities.

Inclusive, Digital, and Future-Ready Employment Model

With the Ministry’s continued focus on creating an inclusive and digital-first employment environment, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that these initiatives will secure a brighter future for India’s youth, ensuring access to dignified opportunities and skilled handholding for all job seekers.
