Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea — INS Kadmatt, an indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette of the Indian Navy, was honoured to conduct and lead the mobile Fleet Review on the occasion of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Day celebrations.
Multinational Ceremony Showcasing Maritime Partnership
The Fleet Review featured a ceremonial column of seven warships representing five countries: INS Kadmatt (India) leading the formation, accompanied by FNS Auguste Benebig (France/New Caledonia), HMPNGS Gilbert Toropo, HMPNGS Ted Diro, HMPNGS Rochus Lokinap (Papua New Guinea), VOEA Nqahau Koula (Tonga), and HMAS Childers (Australia). The ships sailed in a precise formation with 600 yards separation, arriving at their saluting positions on schedule, and concluding with safe docking alongside.
Officer Conducting the Serial and Operational Excellence
INS Kadmatt took on the vital role of Officer Conducting the Serial (OCS) from 1 September 2025, responsible for orchestrating safe navigation and maneuvering of all vessels within Port Moresby harbour. Rigorous preparations included detailed briefings and clear orders, resulting in flawless execution despite the complex multinational setup.
Reinforcing India’s Maritime Diplomacy and Regional Role
The successful conduct of the Fleet Review underscores the Indian Navy’s capability to operate seamlessly in a multinational maritime environment. It highlights India’s role as a highly trained, professional naval force and its emergence as the preferred security partner in the Indo-Pacific region. The event symbolizes growing interoperability and cooperation among likeminded navies, furthering peace, stability, and collaborative maritime security.
Commemorating Friendship and Strategic Cooperation
The event took place amidst Papua New Guinea’s landmark 50th year of independence, illustrating the strong friendship and strategic partnership between India and Pacific Island nations. INS Kadmatt’s leadership role not only reflects operational prestige but reiterates India’s diplomatic commitment under the Act East policy to bolster regional peace and prosperity.
