Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan released the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in advance for flood and landslide-affected farmers of Jammu & Kashmir. The ₹171 crore instalment was directly transferred to the bank accounts of 8.55 lakh farmers, including over 85,000 women farmers, via video conferencing from Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi. With this release, total PM-KISAN assistance to the region has reached ₹4,052 crore.
Government Support and Relief Measures
The programme was attended by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Jammu & Kashmir Agriculture Minister Shri Javed Ahmad Dar, and other officials. Shri Chouhan emphasized that the government stands shoulder to shoulder with affected farmers, ensuring no one is left alone during the crisis. Additional relief includes ₹85.62 crore sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for reconstructing 5,100 flood-damaged houses with funds also allocated for toilet construction and expanded MGNREGA support.
Enhanced Livelihood and Agricultural Support
MGNREGA workdays for affected families are set to increase from 100 to 150 days to provide livelihood support, pending the Jammu & Kashmir government’s proposal. The Centre is ready to supply seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural inputs to revive farming. Permission has been granted for sand sales under a policy benefiting local landowners. Compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) will be provided upon submission of damage assessments by the Jammu & Kashmir government, ensuring direct benefit transfers to insured farmers.
