Rapper Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has strongly refuted allegations that he and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulted a 13-year-old girl following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The claims surfaced after an amended lawsuit filed by attorney Tony Buzbee added Jay-Z as a defendant, accusing him of being involved in the alleged incident. Combs, who was already facing several lawsuits and criminal charges, had previously been the sole named defendant in the case.
The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, alleged that she felt unwell after consuming a drink at the party and was subsequently assaulted by the two men. In response, Jay-Z issued a fiery statement, categorically denying the accusations, labeling them “heinous,” and calling for criminal proceedings if the claims were genuine. He stated that the lawsuit was a calculated attempt to extort money, rejecting any out-of-court settlements as “blackmail”.

Jay-Z’s legal team also pointed to inconsistencies in the accuser’s claims and criticized Buzbee’s legal tactics, describing them as publicity stunts. The rapper emphasized the harm such accusations cause to his family, expressing concern for his children, particularly his eldest daughter, who might face questions from peers about the allegations.
Sean Combs, facing multiple civil and criminal charges, also denied the accusations through his lawyers, calling the amended lawsuit an extension of ongoing efforts to defame him. Combs has pleaded not guilty to separate federal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
Both Jay-Z and Combs have asserted their confidence in the judicial process, maintaining that the truth will exonerate them. The high-profile case is expected to draw significant attention as it progresses through the courts.
