Jewelry Workshop Employee Arrested After Stealing Diamonds Worth Rs.1.47 Crore

The accused was taken into custody and is set to appear before the court on Wednesday.

Breaking News

A 40-year-old man from Rajasthan was arrested by the Goregaon police on Monday for stealing diamonds valued at Rs.1.47 crore from a jewelry design workshop in Mumbai.

The Theft and Escape

The theft took place on December 10 at a jewelry workshop owned by 68-year-old Kiran Rokani, located on Jawahar Nagar Road in Goregaon West. Rokani filed a complaint after discovering that diamonds worth ₹1.47 crore had gone missing from the premises. His suspicion grew when he realized that one of his employees, Sachin Makwana, had also vanished around the same time.

A Complex Escape Plan

To evade capture, Makwana, who was familiar with the workshop’s security systems, including the CCTV cameras, took extreme measures to avoid being tracked. He switched vehicles 13 times, traveling from Goregaon to Surat, which made it difficult for the police to follow his trail.

Police Investigation and Arrest

After receiving the theft complaint, the police began reviewing CCTV footage and tracked Makwana’s journey from Goregaon to Palanpur in Gujarat. Despite locating his family in a village there, Makwana remained elusive. Authorities then analyzed call data records and identified a suspicious phone number. Tracing the phone’s tower locations, they discovered that Makwana had been traveling across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

On Monday, the police traced him to Gadi, Rajasthan, and coordinated with local authorities to arrest him at a relative’s house. During the arrest, the stolen diamonds were recovered.

The accused was taken into custody and is set to appear before the court on Wednesday.
