Breaking News

Ranchi, Dec 5, 2024: The much-awaited swearing-in of the council of ministers in the Hemant Soren-led government of Jharkhand is set to take place on Thursday, December 5. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will officiate the ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Ranchi. The event is expected to mark a significant step in the ongoing political landscape in Jharkhand, following the formation of the new alliance government.

The oath-taking ceremony will commence with Stephen Marandi, the Protem Speaker, taking the oath at around noon. Marandi, a senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA, assumed the position of Protem Speaker after Hemant Soren’s swearing-in as Chief Minister on November 28, 2024.

Following Marandi’s swearing-in, several MLAs are slated to take the oath as ministers. A final list of appointees has already been confirmed by Congress leader Rajesh Thakur, who assured that the list would be submitted to the Governor by Chief Minister Soren. The ministers, as part of the alliance government, will work together for the state’s development, according to Thakur’s statements.

Among the key updates, speculations suggest that Congress will receive four ministerial berths, with MLAs like Irfan Ansari, Deepika Pandey Singh, Radhakrishna Kishore, and Shilpy Neha Tirkey likely to be sworn in. Additionally, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which performed unexpectedly well in the recent elections, is expected to secure one ministerial post. This marks a contrast from the 2019 elections, where RJD had limited representation.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the largest party in the ruling alliance with 34 out of 43 contested seats, will take the lion’s share of ministerial positions. The JMM’s victory is seen as a significant political triumph, especially as it secured the highest-ever number of constituencies in the state’s assembly elections. The alliance, composed of JMM, Congress, and RJD, has garnered a total of 56 seats in the 81-member assembly.

In an additional development, an assembly session will be convened from December 9-12, 2024, marking the commencement of legislative proceedings under the new government.
