The Thane Police have added rape charges to the First Information Report (FIR) in the kidnapping and murder case of a 12-year-old girl from Kalyan. The main accused, Vishal Gawli, with a previous criminal record, was arrested by police in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district on Wednesday.

Gawli was brought to Thane on Thursday and remanded in police custody until January 2 by Judge V A Patrawale of the Kalyan District and Sessions Court. Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende confirmed the development. Initially, the police were unclear about the motive behind the murder, but the addition of rape charges and relevant sections under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) to the FIR has shed more light on the case.

The police’s swift action and the addition of stringent charges underscore the severity of the crime and the commitment to delivering justice to the victim and her family. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are likely to uncover more details about the events leading up to the tragic incident. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, and the police are working to ensure that justice is served.
