SHRI MATRE NAMAH : KAMESHWARI

In Sanatana Dharma, Brahman is the infinite, eternal, and ultimate reality. It is beyond gender, attributes, and form. However, to help seekers understand this abstract truth, Brahman is often represented through masculine and feminine aspects—two faces of the same truth.

The masculine is the still substratum, symbolizing stability and formless presence. The feminine is the active force, responsible for creation, preservation, and transformation. These are not two separate entities but complementary manifestations of the same consciousness.

The Mirror Analogy: Understanding Duality

When a person stands in front of a mirror, the person doesn’t change, but a reflection appears. That reflection is not different from the original, but it’s also not identical. It is a projection of the same source.

Similarly, at the origin of the universe, the eternal Shiva—the formless, changeless absolute—experienced a spontaneous impulse to become manifold. This impulse, or desire, became the feminine energy, Bhagwati Rajrajeshwari, the dynamic creative force.

As mentioned in Lalita Sahasranama, she is “Shiva-Shakti Aikya Rupini”—the unity of Shiva and Shakti. The One became Two, only to remain One.

The “I” (Aham) became “This” (Twam). The subject saw itself as the object in a divine play of self-recognition. This transition marks the beginning of the cosmic manifestation, experienced as name and form

Kameshwar and Kameshwari: Desire as a Creative Force

The first movement, known as Nāda or Spanda, is the original vibration—the throb of consciousness. This is what we call Kāma, or divine desire. This creative desire is not the ordinary human desire; it is the Supreme’s wish to know and express itself.

In this context:

  • The Supreme Being is called Kameshwar, the lord of desire.
  • The active dynamic expression of this desire is Kameshwari, the goddess of will.

Together, Kameshwar and Kameshwari represent the two parent principles of the universe. The entire creation is a result of their union.

Name and Form: The Gateway to Self-Realization

The Nirguna (attributeless) Shiva cannot be accessed without a medium. Hence, the Devi—the dynamic aspect—becomes the medium through which we can experience the truth. As Shivajñāna Pradāyini in Lalita Sahasranama suggests, it is only through Devi that Shiva Jñāna (knowledge of Shiva) is attained.

As quantum physics now acknowledges: reality can be experienced only through conscious awareness. Consciousness perceives itself through name and form, and this experiential reality is possible only through Shakti—the Devi.

Thus, while Shiva and Shakti are not different in essence, it is the Devi who provides the only relatable point for self-realization to all conscious beings.

Kāmakalā: The Power Behind All Manifestation

The most mystical concept in Shri Vidya is Kāmakalā—the subtle power point from which everything emerges. Kāmakalā is the union of Kameshwar and Kameshwari.

It is represented by three bindus (dots), forming a triangle. These three dots are the essence of all creation:

  • The two lower dots represent the nurturing breasts of the Devi.
  • The upper dot symbolizes her third eye—supreme consciousness.

From this triangular formation arises the Sri Chakra, the sacred geometric symbol of the cosmos. Kāmakalā gives rise to Kāmakalāvilās, the divine play or manifestation of this union.

Kameshwar and Kameshwari in Shri Vidya Sadhana

Shri Vidya is the sacred path of divine knowledge, devotion, and self-realization through Kameshwar and Kameshwari. The tradition reveals that worshiping the Devi, or Shakti, is not different from worshiping Shiva. Both exist in union as consciousness and energy.

By surrendering to the grace of Kameshwari VishwaMohini, one begins the journey from ignorance (Avidya) to truth (Vidya). The seeker gradually realizes that the duality is an illusion. What appears as two is always One.

Come to Kameshwari, Come to VishwaMohini

We invite seekers from all walks of life to shed layers of ignorance by entering the embrace of the Divine Mother VishwaMohini. She is Lasya Priya—the one who delights in the cosmic dance of beauty and love.

Just as the art of dance exists only as long as the dancer continues to dance, so too does the universe exist only as long as the Divine Mother pours her love into it.

Without her Lasya (graceful dance), creation dissolves. Hence, to experience the truth of existence, to know the supreme Kameshwar, one must first walk the path of Kameshwari.

The Inner Symbolism of Kameshwar and Kameshwari

Every individual holds both masculine and feminine energies within. By invoking the union of Kameshwar and Kameshwari within, one achieves harmony, balance, and inner union.

This is the essence of Tantra, where the body is a temple, and the divine is experienced through life itself.

Spiritual seekers and devotees often meditate upon Kāmakalā, chant the thousand names of the Devi, and worship the Sri Chakra. These practices help awaken the dormant energy within and lead to liberation.

Divine Union is the Source and the Goal

The eternal dance of Kameshwar and Kameshwari is not just a philosophical idea—it is our very life. Every moment, every breath, and every feeling arises from this union of stillness and movement.

To know Kameshwar, you must surrender to Kameshwari. To rise beyond ignorance, embrace the Divine Feminine. This is the path to real knowledge, real joy, and eternal peace.
