Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inviting the Kapoor family to commemorate the legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor’s centenary. She described the occasion as a celebration of her grandfather’s “extraordinary life and legacy.” The Kapoor family, including Kareena, Ranbir Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, and Neetu Kapoor, met with the Prime Minister on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming tribute.
Raj Kapoor, known as the “Greatest Showman” of Indian cinema, will be honored through a series of events leading up to his 100th birth anniversary on December 14, 2024. The celebrations include a grand retrospective titled *”Raj Kapoor 100 – Celebrating the Centenary of the Greatest Showman,”* which will showcase 10 of his most iconic films, such as Aag, Awara, Shree 420, Sangam, and Bobby. The screenings will take place across 40 cities at major cinemas, including PVR and Cinepolis, between December 13-15, 2024.
In addition to Indian events, Raj Kapoor’s legacy continues to resonate internationally. His films, celebrated for their universal themes of social reform, gained immense popularity in regions like the former Soviet Union. Earlier this year, global film festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India also paid tribute to his contributions.
This centenary initiative highlights Raj Kapoor’s enduring impact on Indian cinema and his timeless appeal worldwide. Fans and cinephiles are encouraged to revisit his classic works during this milestone celebration.
