Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif recently attended the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, accompanied by her mother-in-law, Veena Kaushal. The event, which commenced on January 13 and concludes on February 26, is renowned as one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, attracting millions of devotees seeking spiritual enrichment.
During her visit, Katrina and Veena Kaushal sought blessings at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram from spiritual leaders Swami Chidanand Saraswati and Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati. Katrina expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am very fortunate that I could come here this time. I am really happy and grateful.” She further added, “I am just starting my experience here. I like the energy and the beauty and significance of everything. I am looking forward to spending the whole day here.”
The Maha Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, celebrates the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers at the Triveni Sangam. Pilgrims believe that taking a holy dip at this sacred junction cleanses sins and aids in attaining ‘Moksha’ or liberation. This year’s festival has seen an unprecedented turnout, with officials estimating that approximately half a billion attendees will have participated by its conclusion.
Katrina’s presence at the event highlights the growing trend of celebrities participating in spiritual and cultural festivals. Her husband, Vicky Kaushal, also attended the Mela earlier to promote his film “Chhaava,” which has been performing well at the box office. Other notable figures, such as Akshay Kumar, Esha Gupta, Vijay Deverakonda, and Hema Malini, have also graced the event, underscoring its significance in Indian culture.
The Uttar Pradesh government has undertaken extensive measures to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims and visitors. Preparations include constructing infrastructure over a 40 square kilometer area, enhancing security with 50,000 personnel, and setting up numerous temporary facilities for attendees. Advanced crowd monitoring with AI-powered cameras has been implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
