Kejriwal Promises Rs 2,100 Monthly Aid to Women Ahead of Delhi Elections

In a Strategic Move, the Delhi Government Doubles Financial Support Under Mahila Samman Yojana

Breaking News

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has recently promised to double financial aid for women in Delhi as part of the Mahila Samman Yojana ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Announcing Rs 2,100 per month, the amount is more than double the Rs 1,000 initially proposed in the 2024-25 Budget.

At a public event attended by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Kejriwal confirmed that the proposal was approved by the Delhi Cabinet earlier this week. However, he noted that the actual transfer of funds would face a delay due to the upcoming announcement of election dates.

Kejriwal explained the increase, stating: “Some women had raised concerns that Rs 1,000 would not be sufficient due to inflation. So, we decided to raise the amount to Rs 2,100.”

Registrations Open for Mahila Samman Yojana

Eligible women will soon be able to register for the enhanced financial support as registration for the Mahila Samman Yojana will officially open this Friday. This initiative is expected to directly impact thousands of women across Delhi, addressing inflation and socio-economic challenges.

Welfare Promises Extend to Auto Drivers

Apart from supporting women, Kejriwal has also announced welfare measures targeting Delhi’s auto drivers—a vital voter demographic for AAP. During an event in the Kondli constituency, Kejriwal shared his commitment to their welfare, stating, “Auto drivers were often maligned under the Congress government. After the AAP came to power, we worked to improve their lives.”

The key benefits include:

  • Rs 10 lakh insurance for all auto drivers
  • Rs 1 lakh marriage assistance for daughters of auto drivers
  • Uniform allowance of Rs 2,500 twice a year
  • Sponsorship for the education of auto drivers’ children
  • Relaunch of the PoochhO app to connect users with registered auto drivers

These measures are expected to strengthen AAP’s foothold by addressing the needs of key voter groups ahead of the crucial Delhi Assembly elections.

Political Landscape Shifts as Kejriwal Steps Up

Kejriwal’s strategic announcements come as elections draw closer, with a focus on addressing inflation, welfare schemes, and financial aid to improve AAP’s position in the voter base. Whether these promises will translate into electoral success remains to be seen.
