NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has called on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to reconsider their alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comments about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
In letters shared on social media platform X, Kejriwal criticized Shah’s statement, describing it as disrespectful to the architect of India’s Constitution. He emphasized that such remarks reveal the BJP’s perspective towards Ambedkar and the Constitution.
Kejriwal highlighted Ambedkar’s significant contributions, including drafting the Indian Constitution and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. He questioned the BJP’s audacity in making such comments and urged Kumar and Naidu to reflect deeply on their support for a party that, in his view, disrespects Ambedkar’s legacy.
The controversy stems from Shah’s remarks during a Rajya Sabha debate, where he commented on the frequent invocation of Ambedkar’s name, suggesting it had become a “fashion.” This statement has sparked outrage among opposition parties, with demands for an apology from Shah.
Kejriwal’s outreach to NDA allies aims to prompt a reassessment of their association with the BJP, especially in light of statements that he believes undermine the principles and contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
