A man in Kerala’s Kannur district had a miraculous escape when a speeding train passed directly over him, with the entire incident caught on camera. The shocking footage, which went viral on social media, shows the man lying flat on the tracks while the Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram train sped over him, only to stand up unharmed once the train had passed.
The incident occurred on Monday around 5 pm, between Kannur and Chirakkal railway stations. Local resident Sreejith, who witnessed the close call, recorded the video and immediately informed the Railway Police.
Railway police later identified the man as 56-year-old Pavithran, who was described as having a small physical stature. Pavithran revealed that he had been talking on his phone when he failed to notice the approaching train. Realizing the danger at the last moment, he had no time to move and instinctively lay down on the tracks, which ultimately saved his life.
“I was not drunk, I was just trying to save myself,” Pavithran clarified, refuting rumors circulating on social media that he had been intoxicated. Working as a cleaner for a school vehicle, he expressed that the frightening experience had left him shaken. “I’m still trying to recover from the fear,” he added.
The incident highlights the life-threatening risks posed by distractions near railway tracks. Authorities have recorded Pavithran’s statement, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
In another related incident, a similar near-miss occurred at a railway station in Samastipur, Bihar, when a man fell onto the tracks while attempting to board a moving train, narrowly avoiding a potentially deadly accident.
