Mumbai: Maharashtra’s political stage remains tense as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde submitted his resignation to Governor Ramesh Bais on Tuesday. This marks the conclusion of the assembly’s term and the Mahayuti government’s tenure. Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar accompanied Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to Raj Bhavan, where Governor Ramesh Bais requested Shinde to continue as the caretaker CM until the new government is formed.
The Mahayuti alliance won 235 seats but remains undecided on leadership; BJP supports Fadnavis, while Shinde’s supporters emphasize Maratha initiatives.
However, BJP members, including MLC Pravin Darekar, argue that Fadnavis is the ideal candidate, pointing to his leadership in achieving the alliance’s victory. “Fadnavis’ strategic planning and coordination were crucial for this success. Maharashtra needs his vision now,” Darekar commented.
Priests and local leaders have organized rituals across Maharashtra to support Shinde’s continuation, highlighting the cultural and political weight of this decision. Discussions involving Shinde, Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, and senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are ongoing. Leaders are expected to make a decision soon, clarifying Maharashtra’s political future.
The power struggle underscores Mahayuti’s complex dynamics and prepares Maharashtra for significant leadership decisions in its political future.
