Mamata Banerjee Denies Allegations of Links with Bangladeshi Terrorists

West Bengal Chief Minister Challenges BJP to Prove Claims

Breaking News

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has firmly rejected allegations from BJP MLAs suggesting her connections with terrorists and fundamentalists in Bangladesh. Addressing the assembly, Banerjee stated that she would resign if such claims could be substantiated.

She criticized the BJP MLAs for making “baseless remarks” against her and announced her intention to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to complain about these allegations. “Freedom of speech doesn’t allow them to give hate speech and divide people,” Banerjee emphasized, underscoring her commitment to secularism and peaceful coexistence among all communities.

This development follows recent tensions between the West Bengal government and the Border Security Force (BSF). In early January 2025, Banerjee accused the BSF of facilitating infiltration from Bangladesh as part of a central government “blueprint” to destabilize the state. The BSF denied these allegations, asserting its dedication to securing the nation’s borders.

The political climate in West Bengal remains charged, with ongoing debates over border security and communal harmony. Banerjee’s recent statements have intensified discussions on the state’s relationship with neighboring Bangladesh and the role of central forces in maintaining border integrity.
