Massive Fire at Kalyan Housing Complex, No Casualties Reported

Authorities suspect a short circuit was the cause of the fire, and though the building had a firefighting system, maintenance staff were not adequately trained to operate it.

Breaking News

A massive fire broke out at the Vertex Housing Complex in Kalyan, Maharashtra, on November 26, 2024, starting on the 15th floor and quickly spreading to the 16th and 17th floors. Although no casualties were reported, the blaze caused significant damage to several apartments, leading to widespread panic among residents. The fire brigade faced multiple challenges, including the building’s height and issues with high-pressure water equipment. However, with support from neighboring municipal corporations, the fire was eventually brought under control by 9:30 PM.

Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) officials confirmed that five fire engines were deployed, along with drones to assess the situation. “We had a problem with the hydraulic pump in our turntable ladder, which delayed operations,” said KDMC Commissioner Indurani Jakhar. Authorities suspect a short circuit was the cause of the fire, and though the building had a firefighting system, maintenance staff were not adequately trained to operate it.
