Director Matt Reeves has shared his thoughts on the possibility of Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman being incorporated into James Gunn’s new DC Universe, saying it would only happen “if it makes sense.” The sequel to The Batman is set to begin shooting this year, and Reeves remains focused on that project for now.

Recently, James Gunn hinted at the idea of bringing The Batman (2022) into his revamped DC Universe, which raised questions about how this could fit into the broader narrative. When asked about this during a podcast at the Golden Globes, Reeves explained, “It really comes down to whether it makes sense.” He emphasized that he has a clear vision for the Batman saga as an epic crime story and expressed gratitude toward Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran for allowing him to continue this vision. “They are letting us do that,” Reeves added, but he also stated that the future remains uncertain.

Regarding the potential crossover, Reeves was non-committal, stating, “I don’t know, we will have to see where that goes.”

Meanwhile, the sequel to The Batman has been delayed by a year. Warner Bros. confirmed the new release date as October 1, 2027, much to the disappointment of fans. However, Gunn has defended the delay, comparing it to the long gaps seen between successful sequels in film history, such as Avatar, Top Gun, and Incredibles. He explained that delays are often writing-related and necessary for creating a quality film.
