Mayank Yadav’s Career Hampered by Injury, Set to Miss England Series: Report

The Lucknow-based franchise finished seventh in the IPL 2024 standings, with 14 points after winning seven of their 14 matches.

Breaking News

Young paceman Mayank Yadav is set to miss the upcoming white-ball series against England due to an ongoing back injury that has kept him sidelined since October. Yadav, who made an impressive international debut following a standout IPL season with Lucknow Super Giants, has struggled with injuries that have derailed his cricketing career.

Injury Setbacks Continue to Stall His Progress

Mayank’s promising start in international cricket was highlighted by his four-wicket haul in his T20I debut against Bangladesh. However, after the series, the back injury resurfaced, causing him to miss the South Africa tour and a series of domestic competitions, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

According to a report in the Times of India, Yadav is also expected to miss Delhi’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra and the England series due to ongoing fitness concerns. A source within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed, “He’s suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn’t even been named amongst the probables for Delhi’s first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23.”

IPL Retention and Future Prospects

Despite his injury woes, Yadav received a significant boost when Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) retained him for a massive INR 11 crore ahead of the 2025 IPL season. His rapid pace during the IPL 2024 season left a lasting impact, even though an injury cut his campaign short. LSG, recognizing his potential, kept him in their squad along with players like Nicholas Pooran and Ravi Bishnoi, while also strengthening their lineup with new signings including Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep, and David Miller.

The Lucknow-based franchise finished seventh in the IPL 2024 standings, with 14 points after winning seven of their 14 matches.
