Lionsgate has officially rescheduled the release of Michael, the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film, which was initially set for April 18, 2025, will now hit theaters on October 3, 2025, giving it a six-month delay. The movie will explore the life and career of the iconic pop superstar, with Jaafar Jackson, the late Michael Jackson’s nephew, portraying the King of Pop. Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo round out the cast, with a screenplay penned by John Logan.

In addition to the biopic, Lionsgate also announced that Good Fortune, a comedy written and directed by Aziz Ansari, will debut in theaters on October 17, 2025. The film stars Ansari alongside Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves. Good Fortune follows a well-meaning but slightly misguided angel (Reeves), who intervenes in the lives of a frustrated gig worker (Ansari) and a successful venture capitalist (Rogen).

Fuqua, speaking at San Diego Comic-Con in July, shared his excitement for Michael, emphasizing that the project is a deeply personal one for him. He expressed how Jackson had been a significant influence on his life and career, and the film will explore both Jackson’s artistry and his human side.

The biopic gained attention with early footage shown at CinemaCon in April, revealing 30 Jackson songs and an extended runtime to fully portray his journey.

Lionsgate anticipates *Michael* and *Good Fortune* as major releases for fall 2025, marking a busy period with these two high-profile films.
