Ministry of Coal’s Special Campaign 5.0: Innovation, Inclusivity, and Clean Governance Take Center Stage

Breaking News

The Ministry of Coal has launched an ambitious Special Campaign 5.0, focusing on efficiency, cleanliness, and sustainability across the coal sector. Running from October 2nd to 31st, 2025, this nationwide initiative spans all Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the Ministry’s purview. The campaign has led to notable best practices and pioneering innovations, reflecting a deep commitment to citizen-centric governance and ecological responsibility.

Campaign Progress: Targets, Achievements, and Impact

By mid-October, 2025, the Ministry reported significant achievements:

  • 272 sites cleaned, covering 1,573,560 sq. ft. against an 8.2 million sq. ft. target.

  • 1,307 MT of scrap disposed of from a targeted 8,678 MT, generating over ₹7.25 crore in revenue.

  • 4,307 physical and 8,028 electronic files reviewed, with 5,100 weeded out or closed, freeing up operational space and enhancing efficiency.

Best Practices: From ‘Waste to Art’ to Modern Cleaning

The campaign features a range of innovative and inspiring initiatives, including:

  • ‘ANGARA’ – The Mascot of Coal India Ltd: Crafted from iron scrap by Coal India’s Central Workshop Tadali (WCL), this new mascot highlights creative reuse and organizational innovation.

  • Defense Art Installation: SECL’s Central Excavation Workshop has constructed an art installation featuring a model S-400 anti-missile system and a robotic soldier using scrap, symbolizing technological advancement and national preparedness, inspired by Operation Sindoor.

  • Store Room to Creche: A former storage area filled with redundant items was transformed into a vibrant creche, providing a safe environment for children and demonstrating efficient space repurposing.

Inclusivity and Empowerment: Women-Led Initiatives

Inclusivity has become a hallmark of the campaign, with two standout efforts:

  • Pink Dispensary: At Patansaongi (WCL – Nagpur), an all-women dispensary now operates, offering health services managed by women, emphasizing compassion and empowerment in the workplace.

  • All-Women Central Store: SECL has opened the first fully women-run Central Store for spare parts in Korba, underscoring the coal industry’s strides in gender inclusivity and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Sustainability and Digital Drive: Modern Practices

  • Mechanical Sweeping: SECL deployed 20 mechanical sweeping machines across nine areas, ensuring clean transport and colony roads.

  • Cyber Security Workshop: Under the “Cyber Jagrit Bharat” initiative, the Ministry conducted workshops for officials to raise awareness and skill in digital hygiene and online safety, vital for protecting the sector’s growing digital infrastructure.

Conclusion: Special Campaign 5.0

Special Campaign 5.0 builds on the success of previous drives, setting higher targets for cleanliness, digitization, transparency, and sustainability. As the Ministry of Coal and its PSUs embrace innovation—from creative recycling to women’s empowerment and cyber safety—this campaign paves the way for a modern, efficient, and inclusive coal sector.
