Among the engineering highlights of the Mizoram first train line is India’s second-highest railway bridge, standing majestically at 114 meters – an impressive 42 meters taller than the iconic Qutub Minar. The project, executed by Northeast Frontier Railway at a cost of Rs 8,213.72 crore, faced unique logistical challenges due to the unavailability of construction materials within Mizoram. The railway line includes four new stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang, with Sairang serving as the primary terminal located 22 kilometers from Aizawl. These stations will serve as crucial connectivity points for residents of Kolasib and Aizawl districts, providing access to better healthcare, education, and business opportunities.

Rajdhani Express Service Details

The inaugural Mizoram first train line service will feature a dedicated Rajdhani Express connecting Sairang to Delhi’s Anand Vihar station. The 20-coach train will cover 2,510 kilometers in 43 hours and 25 minutes, maintaining an average speed of 57.81 kilometers per hour while stopping at 21 stations including major hubs like Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Patna, and Kanpur.

Regular services begin September 19, with weekly departures from Sairang every Saturday at 4:30 PM, arriving at Anand Vihar Monday at 10:50 AM. Return journeys depart Anand Vihar Monday at 7:50 PM, reaching Sairang Tuesday at 3:15 PM. The Mizoram first train line operates using diesel engines from Bairabi to Guwahati, switching to electric power for the remaining journey since the new line isn’t yet electrified.

Economic Impact and Travel Benefits

The Mizoram first train line will revolutionize transportation economics for local residents. Previously, road travel from Silchar to Aizawl cost approximately Rs 1,000 for the 150-kilometer journey. The new railway service reduces this cost to less than Rs 80, making travel 92% more affordable and accessible to ordinary citizens.

Time savings represent another significant benefit of the Mizoram first train line. Journey time between Aizawl and Guwahati will decrease from 16 hours by road to just 12 hours by train, while Aizawl-Silchar travel time drops from nearly 7 hours to only 3 hours.
