UP Speaker Condemns MLA for Alleged Pan Masala Spitting in Vidhan Sabha

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana on Tuesday expressed concern over the conduct of a legislator who allegedly spat pan masala inside the Vidhan Sabha hall. While Mahana acknowledged seeing the act in a video, he refrained from naming the MLA to avoid public embarrassment.

Speaker Calls for Clean Conduct in the House

Before the commencement of the House session, Mahana addressed the members, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the Assembly premises. He revealed that upon receiving information about the incident, he personally ensured that the area was cleaned.

“This morning, I was informed that a member had spat after consuming pan masala in the Vidhan Sabha. I immediately came and got the area cleaned. I have seen the MLA in the video but do not want to humiliate them publicly. However, I urge all members to maintain discipline and stop anyone engaging in such behavior,” said Mahana.

He further stated that if the concerned MLA comes forward to admit their mistake, it would be appreciated. Otherwise, he would personally summon them for a discussion.

UP Budget 2025-26: Key Announcements

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh state budget for 2025-26 was presented by Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on February 20. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the budget, amounting to Rs.8,08,736 crore, is 9.8% higher than the previous year’s budget, with a major focus on infrastructure development.

“This increase in budget size reflects the state’s economic strength and the commitment of the double-engine government,” said CM Yogi Adityanath.

He further highlighted that Uttar Pradesh, once ranked 6th or 7th in terms of economic strength, has now become India’s second-largest economy.

According to a NITI Aayog report on the fiscal health of states, Uttar Pradesh has been categorized as a front-runner. Between 2018 and 2022, the state’s physical health index improved by 8.9%, while unemployment rates dropped significantly due to job creation initiatives.

Public Reaction and Political Debate

The alleged pan masala spitting incident has sparked debate among political circles and the public. Many are questioning the discipline and decorum maintained by elected representatives within the Vidhan Sabha.

With increasing scrutiny over politicians’ conduct, Speaker Mahana’s firm stand on cleanliness and discipline sends a strong message to all legislators. The coming days may bring further developments if the concerned MLA acknowledges their actions.
